This magnificent and charming manor house located in the inland town of Ponte da Barca in the Minho region nestles on the mountain slopes of Santa Rita halfway to the mythical remains of the Castle of Nobrega and the land of Magalhães (Ferdinand Magellan. Cerca 1478-1521).
In the 18th century extensive renovation works were carried out on the main building , the chapel dedicated to St Anthony, the central courtyard and the imposing entrance gate as well as the grounds. Today, a number of 15th century remains can be seen under the ground floor of the main house. The farm, the granaries, the verdant fields, and the secular trees are signs of the agricultural prosperity of the house and the Minho region. The present owners, Maria Leonor Pereira de Lacerda Tavares Barreto and Alberto Tavares Barreto initiated further restoration work in order to adapt the house and farm to Agritourism. In the main building they reconverted four quality guest bedrooms and the house also offers various leisure facilities including an outdoor swimming pool, private parking, gardens and a farming environment.
There are many reasons to discover and experience Casa da Portela de Sampriz – from the the famous cuisine and “vinho verde” wines of the region to the traditional mountain villages or the incomparable Peneda Geres National Park.
